There is so much incredibly bad earthquake related news coming out of Japan at the moment, which now includes the recent nuclear power plant explosion at Fukushima (video).
I thought I’d post this relatively good news story, amidst the still unfolding devastation. Embedded is a video from YouTube user escot2008 in Tokyo. The video shows a cluster of huge high-rise buildings in Tokyo swaying an incredible amount.
This seems like an amazing feat of engineering to have high-rise buildings sway from side–to–side so much, but not topple. It must be a terrifying sensation to be in one of these buildings as this is occurring, but much better than the alternative! It’s good to know tall buildings can stand up to a quake of this magnitude.
