1 Billion Obese People, 1 Billion Hungry People: 2 Sides Of Same Coin?

1 billion hungry – 1 billion overweight

In this TED talk from 2010 Ellen Gustafson, co-founder of FEED Projects, maintains that in terms of food availability and production, obesity and hunger are two sides of the same coin.

She has launched The 30 project to help change how we eat within the next 30 years, and to attempt to help solve the global food inequalities that lie behind both hunger and obesity.

From the beginning I thought the global food shortage was a sham. I don’t believe in conspiracies, but certainly there are problems which could use solutions. As I understand it bio-fuels take food out of people’s mouths. I’m young, wondering where the authentic communities are.

Food crops being used for biofuels is certainly an issue, hopefully one that that be learned from. You think food shortages are a sham? Have you ever been to a country where there are said to be food shortages for various reasons? I see you live in Washington.
