If you’re a 90s kid like me, you’re going to have the Captain Planet theme song in your head for the rest of the day after reading this. You’re also going to be really pumped.
Rumors that the popular environment-saving cartoon “Captain Planet and the Planeteers†is going to be made into a movie have been going around for years now.
Cartoon Network recently said in a press release that they’re partnering with Angry Filmworks, those who turned “Transformers†into a film, to create a movie on the big screen.
I didn’t even know I remembered Captain Planet, but now that I think about this, the messages shelled out in the popular TV show are much more relevant today than they were even just 15 or 20 years ago. The directors and producers definitely have a lot to work with these days.
Imagine the villians they could create out of some of the major issues such as pollution and deforestation, along with mini-villians made out of littered plastic bags (we’re going to take over this entire park!) or garbage on the side of the freeway (there’s no way a trash claw will stab through THIS tough CFC exterior!). They’ll all drive Hummers.
I feel like Captain Planet will need the help of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with the amount of environmental issues he has to tackle, but I guess we can take this one step at a time. Plus, this may end up turning into a film franchise rather than just one movie, so there is still hope for a full-blown 90s action movie comeback.
Are you as excited for the Captain Planet movie as I am? What kind of villians do you think they could create out of current environmental issues?
