According to a LinkedIn infographic, more than 4.7 million of its members are involved in small businesses. Between 2009 and 2011, the number of members involved in small businesses in green industries has increased significantly as well.
Green startups haven’t had the easiest road to success, but LinkedIn has reported a significant increase in members who work for small business in the environmental and renewables industries. Between 2009 and 2011, “renewables and environment†was the fastest growing sector of the small business arena, increasing by 29 percent. However, the second largest growth was in the “oil and energy†field, which grew by 20 percent in the past 2 years.
As you can see by the information on LinkedIn’s graphic, small businesses and independent startups are laying a good chunk of the foundation in putting American workers back on the job. As the economy begins to improve, we may see an even larger increase in renewable energy workers AND many other companies developing new, innovative ways to work toward a sustainable future.
Do you own or work for a company in this growing green sector?
