Ford Focus fans, the time may have come for you to take part in the electric vehicle experience. Ford Motor Company is now taking online orders for the 2012 Ford Focus Electric, competing against the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt.
Once the car hits the market, the largest competition is expected to be between the Leaf and the Focus Electric, with the Focus boasting a faster charge time and dashboard interface. The Leaf takes the lead with a larger storage area, ideal for longer road trips. The focus will cost $40,000, a few grand more than the Leaf.
The 2012 Focus Electric will first only be available in pilot areas: California, New Jersey and New York among the first. It will then expand to other states throughout the year.
You can find details on ordering, the build, price shopping tool, and tax credit information on the Ford Electric Vehicles Facebook page.
The electric vehicle market will likely expand to 30 or more models within the next five years, considerably more than the 2 or 3 options in this price range out there. Personally, I think the Focus Electric is pretty adorable and I’d love to get my hands on one.
