I may never tire of seeing electric engines blow away combustion engines in performance.
If you’re partial to a bit of speed and power, check out this recent Stuntbusters video of a quarter mile dragstrip match-up between an all-electric Tesla Roadster and a Porsche Carrera. As you can see in the video, the Tesla smokes (well, no smoke!) the Porsche right off the line and the Porsche never looks like catching up over the distance.
Even thought the Porsche has 385 horsepower and the Tesla 288, the Telsla’s instant torque is way too much for the Porsche. In addition, the Tesla is made from carbon fiber, so is lighter on the road.
As the dude in the video says, “It never goes through the gears like a regular car, it just continues on. It’s the most power I’ve ever felt”.
Make sure you watch the whole video, as there is a second match-up between a classic 1969 Chevy Camaro with a 427 big block engine, and a 65 Coupe Kit Car. Oh but there’s a sweet electric twist. The Coupe has been modified with 1,400 lithium ion batteries, giving it 1300 ft/lbs. of torque. Guess what happens?
Electric engines, running on clean energy (of course), are the future of automotive. Do you agree or disagree?
