IKEA To Sell Thin-Film Solar Systems Through UK Stores

We knew it wouldn’t be long before solar energy became more affordable and easily accessible, which is why it’s so great to see that Hanergy Holding Group Limited will be partnering with IKEA to offer its UK customers some affordable solar power options.

Hanergy will stock the stores with thin film solar systems, complete with homeowner services packages that include a full site survey, installation, fitting, and a guarantee. The group will also be conducting some workshops at the IKEA Milton Keynes Store. IKEA has been working to provide customers with as much information as possible about the upcoming solar energy units available for homeowners.

From BusinessWire:

“We believe in the growth potential of the British PV market. This is why Hanergy has decided to launch its small power generation systems in the UK. Our cooperation with IKEA was only a matter of time since we share the same principles of environmental protection and sustainable development,” said Jason Chow, CEO of Hanergy Global Investment & Sales.

The rooftop units will help households save as much as 40% on electricity bills, and thanks to the feed-in-tariff, some homeowners will also have the opportunity to sell back unused electricity to the National Grid, saving them even more money.

Headquartered in Beijing, Hanergy Holding Group Limited is China’s largest privately owned provider of renewable energy. Since becoming incorporated in 1994, Hanergy has an installed hydroelectric capacity of 6,000MW.

So far we haven’t seen any word on the price of the systems, but it sounds like it could be a cost-effective and worthwhile investment. Would you buy some of these solar systems from IKEA if they became available in your area, or even online?
