Our machines, they are starting to do some things better than us humans, and now that incudes running fast.
As evidenced by the embedded video, the Boston Dynamics built Cheetah Bot has now achieved a speed that’s 0.5 mph (0.8 kph) quicker than Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest human.
Seeing these robots designed for military purposes is kind of creepy, but at the same time, it’s hard not to feel sorry for the robot (what?) when the running machine belt gets too fast for it at about 28.3 mph, and it trips over. Even though it’s a machine, it seems similar to when you watch a dog go ass over teakettle running after a stick. Poor cheetah bot.
Still, I hope these things never have guns mounted on them, for military purposes. Yikes.
