As Ezra Dyer says in the following video, made as part of Automobile Magazine’s 2013 Automobile of the Year testing, a lot of discussion about the Tesla Model S tends to center around its driving range (on a single battery charge), its  price, and whether Tesla Motors has a viable business case in the years to come. However, the burning question here is purely about performance. How does the performance of the Tesla Model S compare to another high performance luxury sedan such as the (560 horsepower) BMW M5?
In terms of on-paper specs, it is said that the BMW M5 can go from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 4.2 seconds, while the Tesla Model S Signature Performance edition can do the same in 4.4 seconds, so it should be a close call from a standing start.
Do keep in mind that the BMW is a gas guzzler, with a 4.4 liter V8 engine. The Tesla has zero tailpipe emissions. Watch the video to see what happens.
