If you understand the importance of healthy eating and find it baffling that there are adults who refuse to eat fruits and vegetables, Thug Kitchen (NSFW if your boss hates swear words) has your back. Written by a group of anonymous healthy eaters, Thug Kitchen’s goal is to “drop some knowledge on your ass†about healthy food and recipes, encouraging readers to “eat like you give a fuck.â€
There is plenty of attitude and snark, but the site is also filled with some pretty valuable information about food. My favorite is the image about avocado, which refers to it as “nature’s butter, bitch†and says to “spread that shit on your next sandwich†because “mayo is fucking gross.†True story. Also, did you know avocados are rich in phytonutrients that reduce inflammation like sore muscles? Well now you do, thanks to Thug Kitchen.
In an interview with Huff Post, the anonymous writers talked about what inspired them to start the site. They felt that most healthy eating blogs were way too serious, which is definitely true – it’s hard to find a healthy eating blog by writers who don’t obsess over every calorie and actually make it sound fun and affordable to eat healthy.
From the TK website:
“THIS SITE IS HERE TO HELP YOUR NARROW DIETARY MINDED ASS EXPLORE SOME FUCKING OPTIONS SO THAT YOU CAN LOOK AND FEEL LIKE A FUCKING CHAMP. PART OF WHAT WE ENJOY ABOUT TK IS HOW, HOPEFULLY, IT WILL GET READERS THINKING ABOUT WHAT KIND OF ADDITIONAL BEHAVIORS THEY ATTRIBUTE TO PEOPLE WHO TRY TO EAT HEALTHY. EVERYONE DESERVES TO FEEL A PART OF OUR COUNTRY’S PUSH TOWARD A HEALTHIER DIET, NOT JUST PEOPLE WITH DISPOSABLE INCOMES WHO SPEAK A CERTAIN WAY. WE AIM TO EDUCATE AS WELL AS ENTERTAIN, MOTHER FUCKER.â€
The site also has some amazing sounding recipes such as Tucson Tempeh Pasta and Black Bean and Cilantro Pesto Wrap, and a book is apparently in the works.
What do you think of Thug Kitchen? Do you think this is the kind of entertainment the world needs to start eating healthy meals?
