After a surprising and abrupt dismissal from Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News network, Tucker Carlson, the host of the previously highly-watched show ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’, plans to resurrect his show on social media giant Twitter. The announcement was made via a three-minute video on Carlson’s Twitter page (see video below), though further details about the show’s format, schedule, and content were not disclosed.
In his video announcement, Carlson voiced strong criticism against the U.S. media, alleging manipulation and deception. He stated that mainstream news consumers are often fed lies and warned that journalists working within large media organizations face significant restrictions. He even hinted at his sudden departure from Fox, stating that exceeding these limits can lead to termination.
Carlson’s departure from Fox came on the heels of the network’s agreement to a $787.5 million settlement with Dominion, a voting-machine maker. Fox had made false on-air statements, alleging Dominion’s devices were manipulated to favor President Joe Biden in the 2020 elections.
The decision to move his show to Twitter, according to Carlson, is due to the platform’s standing as one of the last major platforms encouraging free speech. He also criticized mainstream media organizations for being thinly veiled propaganda outlets.
Fox’s decision to part ways with Carlson, who drew as many as 3 million viewers, was also influenced by private messages he had sent, which were recently made public through legal filings.
