It’s estimated that the world’s population will reach around 9 billion people by 2050, and then begin to fall. We are currently approaching 7 billion. Many of us living today will still be around in 2050. The question is: given our many social and environmental issues, how are 9 billion people going to learn to live sustainably by 2050?
We don’t pretend to have all the answers. With your help, we hope to find out, and have a lot of fun doing it!

Over the past few years John has developed a particular interest in the intersection of connectivity and sustainability, and in projects involving social and environmental responsibility. He founded THE9BILLION in January 2011.
In addition, John is a social media advocate and strategist. He makes, speaks and writes about social media. He is a keen advocate for improved online communications through the use of social software, online communities, and emerging mobile technologies.
